Austrian Citizenship by Investment isn’t for Most People

Some in the citizenship industry promote an “Austrian citizenship by investment” program that doesn’t technically exist. If you’re not a UHNWI, there are better ways to become an Austrian citizen or find a cheaper EU citizenship.

Andrew Henderson and the Nomad Capitalist team are the world’s most sought-after experts on legal offshore tax strategies, investment immigration, and global citizenship. We work exclusively with seven- and eight-figure entrepreneurs and investors who want to “go where they’re treated best”.

Work with Andrew:

Andrew has started offshore companies, opened dozens of offshore bank accounts, obtained multiple second passports, and purchased real estate on four continents. He has spent the last 12 years studying and personally implementing the Nomad Capitalist lifestyle.

Our growing team of researchers, strategies, and implementers add to our ever-growing knowledge base of the best options available. In addition, we’ve spent years studying the behavior of hundreds of clients in order to help people get the results they want faster and with less effort.

  1. Investment citizenship is fundamentally wrong, especially when it gives very rich people a privilege over the poorer in society who are less wealthy, and citizenship is fundamentally supposed to be of "equal"

Here in Ireland, our relaxed nationality law has became a very controversial topic among irish society over recent years, brexit has caused an alarming increase of british citizens to become irish on the basis of their grandparents, something which most other countries in the world do not allow including the UK itself, the fact that its being treated as a mere commodity badge of convenience for some Britons with irish grandparents who would not have the slightest interest in claiming that citizenship other than brexit, including some with irish grandparents who voted brexit, causes devaluation of citizenship and negative views towards it, hence why the term "plastic paddy" is frequently used among irish society, which is a very negative view towards citizenship especially towards those who have worked hard and contributed to irish society in order to obtain that citizenship and who are far more deserving of it than a white British or American with a grandparent they could have potentially never met who have contributed absolutely nothing to Ireland and its Society, indeed this causes british and American people without irish grandparents who have worked hard for their citizenship be stereotyped under that same term.

Nomad Capitalist seems to engage in believing that citizenship should be a thing that's sold to the highest bidder and should simply be used as a mere commodity, its about as equally controversial as birth tourism I.e. a taboo subject and should be avoided. There is also a more dangerous and sinister motive in trying to aquire citizenship of other countries at present, that is for people to selfishly flout COVID-19 travel bans and entry restrictions.

  2. This is the true mindset we all are here for. 1. Looking into what we exactly want 2. not paying so high for something that could be achieved with way below than that and 3. valuing time by prioritizing faster programs.
    Thank you Andrew,
    Thank you all nomadcapitalist team.

  3. Austria is good if you play on the big field and can afford a holding structure and offshore offices. If you are doing the "laptop lifestyle" you will have a discouraging time. But you could technically live in austria income tax free with a model in cyprus which is called "Organschaft" in german. But this again is only economical when you can afford aout 20k yearly costs for the cyprus management. In Tyrol and other austria Real Estate only goes up because we do not have so much space. It goes up and up and up.

  4. When there is possibility to be citizen in Canada within 3 years for investment Category, why would anybody will like Austria with so many discrimination. Crazy. Canada is the heaven on earth.

  5. I am a US Citizen who wants to become a Citizen of both Finland and Luxembourg. For Finland it requires 4 years of residency before you can apply for a permanent residency. After 5 more years you can apply for Finnish citizenship. So 9 years in total. For a Luxembourg you can apply after 5 years of permanent residency(Down from 7 years) you can apply for a Luxembourg Citizenship.

  6. Austria is one of the best countries in the world to live, "big fun" I have been a resident for 40 years, as well as maintaining my USA passport. The women are some of the most reasonable and intelligent I have met. Austria was once a great empire and its financial theories influenced Western economics. Nothing but good to say, except that Nazi ideology is still alive and well there.

  7. Dear Andrew Henderson,

I'm a solo entrepreneur, based in Paris, London and Cork. I purchased and read your book. I learnt a lot of things from your experience.
I watch your videos on a regular basis. There's one aspect of your philosophy : "Go where you're treated best" that skips an arch reality I'd like to share : Depending on what your origins are, you might not be welcome where someone else is more than welcome, regardless of your incomes and financial status. Races and nationalities are still major factors of people perception.

I'm black and French and my colour of skin is not welcome in some of the countries you advocate for (Georgia, Malaysia, etc.) and my French passport is not an asset in the countries where France left a bad memory (Ivory Coast, Algeria, etc.). That won't stop me from doing what I have to, but I just wanted tell you that being a white ex-USA citizen somehow doesn't give you the same advantages that other people.
Thanks for all the knowledge you share on your platform, I'm not a six figures entrepreneur yet, but we'll get there.

  8. Germany is giving entrepreneur visa after investing 200k…but taking in a million refugees for free and giving them welfare…same with Austria and the taxes are crazy high…why would anyone go there…
